Abstract

1379869 Angular displacement transducers OKUMA MACHINERY WORKS Ltd 6 March 1973 10831/73 Heading G1N [Also in Division G4] Apparatus for detecting the angular displacement of a shaft utilizes the vernier principle and comprises a stationary disc having a central core with a primary winding 12 wound therearound, and a plurality of poles disposed on equi-distant portions of the periphery and having secondary winding coils 13 thereon, and a rotatable element mounted on the shaft and coaxial with the disc and having a plurality of radially extending arms 15, the number of arms 15 being either 1 less or 1 greater than the number of poles and secondaries 13. In use as shown when the primary 12 is energized, as the shaft rotates the arms 15 align one at a time with a corresponding one of the secondaries 13 and hence a full rotation of the rotatable element gives rise to many more pulses in the secondaries than the number of secondaries used. For example with 10 coils 13 and 11 arms 15, 110 pulses are produced from one revolution of the shaft.
