Abstract

1379863 Radar MARCONI CO Ltd 15 Nov 1973 [25 Jan 1973] 3747/73 Heading H4D A receiver for a radar system includes a hard limiter interposed between two dispersive devices, each of which is operative to compress in time received frequency swept signals. A source 16 of clock pulses in transmitter 10, feeds an impulse generator 18 coupled to a dispersive delay line 20. The output of line 20 is a long frequency swept pulse and gate 22, under the control of source 16, limits the duration of the pulse to a required value (20Ás. in the embodiment). The pulses are fed to amplifier 24, frequency changer 26, circulator 12 and aerial 13. The received echo pulses are fed to frequency changer 28 and amplifier 30 of receiver 13. The amplified pulses are then fed to dispersive delay line 32, hard limiter 34, dispersive delay line 36 and weighting filter 38 (the latter reducing range side lobes). Detector 40 provides a video output after suitable amplification and processing. Weighting filter 38 may be placed between limiter 34 and delay line 36. It is stated thatuse of dispersive delay line 32 allows a choice in the receiver false alarm rate (due to noise &c.).
