Abstract
1379712 3,3-Bisindolyl-phthalides NCR CORP 2 May 1973 [12 May 1972] 20836/73 Heading C4P [Also in Division D2] The invention comprises compounds of the general formula wherein each R is a C 1 -C 4 alkyl group, which may be the same or different. As in Example 1 they are prepared by reacting 1-ethyl-2-methyl- 3 - (2 - carboxybenzoyl) - indole with 1 - benzyl-2-methyl-indole in presence of acetic anhydride in a steam bath, pouring into iced water, basifying to pH 8-9, extracting with benzene, washing the extract with 5% aqueous NaOH and then water till neutral, drying and concentrating the benzene and then diluting with petroleum ether. The supernatant liquid was decanted and the oil washed with petroleum ether, dissolved in acetonitrile and left to stand overnight.
