Abstract
1379628 Unsaturated nitriles SNAM PROGETTI SpA 22 Aug 1972 [2 Sept 1971] 39049/72 Heading C2C Unsaturated nitriles are prepared by reacting (e.g. at 400-500‹ C.) an olefin, ammonia and oxygen (or a gaseous mixture including oxygen) in the presence of gaseous CO 2 and/or CO and an antimony-based catalyst, using a total of from 1 to 50 moles of the carbon oxide(s) per mole of olefin. Another diluent in addition to the CO 2 and/or CO may also be present. The reaction is preferably carried out using 1-5 moles of O 2 and 0À8-1À5 moles of NH 3 per mole of olefin. Preferred catalysts are Fe-Sb and Sn-Sb oxycompounds optionally containing as promoter one or more of Cu, Ag, Te, Bi, Nb, Ce, Mn, W, Mo and V. The examples describe the preparation of acrylonitrile by ammoxidation of propylene.
