Abstract
1379563 Catheters ALLIED MEDICAL POLYMERS Ltd 25 Oct 1972 [25 Oct 1971] 49473/71 Heading A5R A urethral catheter comprises a polymeric tube 1 with a drainage lumen 1a, a flexible elongate member 8 for inserting the tube 1 into the urethra, said member 8 having an end for releasable connection with the proximal end of the tube 1, a tube 7 for removing the tube 1 from the urethra and means for retaining it in the urethra. The tube 1 has a length such that it extends only part way along the urethra. The tube 1 has openings 3 adjacent a closed end 2 and is about 3" long and has an outer diameter of about " so that the proximal end face 6 is on the bladder side of the sphincter urethral muscles. The sac 4 communicates with an inflation lumen 5 from which the fine bore tube 7 extends beyond the end of the urethra and serves to inflate the sac 4 and remove the tube 1 from the bladder. The end face 6 is inclined relative to the axis of the tube 1 and engages a corresponding end face of the tube 8 with a hollow spigot 9 and a groove 10 for accommodating the tube 7. In another form, the catheter tube is relatively stiff and has at least one window through which tissue protrudes to effect retention of the tube in the urethra.
