Abstract

1378587 Hydrocarbon conversions using a homogeneous catalyst GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER CO 17 Oct 1972 [4 Nov 1971] 47843/72 Heading C5E In a hydrocarbon conversion process which uses an inert heat transfer medium and a homogeneous catalyst system, the hydrocarbon feedstock is injected at a multiplicity of separate points into the flow of the total amount of heat transfer medium and homogeneous catalyst. Conversions to which the invention may be applied are as follows, steam being the inert heat transfer medium and H 2 S, NH 4 S, HBr or methylmercaptan being the catalyst: (i) cracking paraffins to olefins; (ii) demethanation of methylpentenes to isoprene; (iii) dehydrogenation of alkylaromatics to alkarylaromatics; (iv) dehydrogenation of olefins to diolefins and (v) conversion of piperylene to cyclopentene and/or cyclopentadiene.
