1378536 Film dressings AJINOMOTO CO INC 12 April 1972 [14 April 1971] 16815/72 Headings A5B and A5R In a process for producing a film, a solution of at least one polyamino acid, at least one pharmaceutically active substance and at least one carrier for the pharmaceutically active substance or substances which is capable of migrating to the surface of the polyamino acid and carrying the pharmaceutically active substance or substances, to the said surface, are mixed and a film cast from the mixture and dried. The polyamino acid may be a homopolymer or copolymer of one or more neutral amino acids, or #-monoester of an acidic amino acid or an N-substituted basic amino acid. The pharmaceutically active substance may be a germicide, an antifungal agent, a disinfectant, an antihistaminic agent, an antibiotic, a chemotherapeutic agent or a hormone agent. The carrier may be a semi or non- drying vegetable oil, an animal fat, a mineral oil, a wax, a polyoxyalkylene glycol, an ester of phthalic, citric, maleic or an aliphatic dibasic acid or of glycol or an epoxy plasticiser. To form the film a solution of the mixture may be applied to the surface of a substrate such as release paper or a glass or metal plate and dried at room temperature or by heating before being removed from the substrate.
