Abstract
1378151 Aniline and hydroquinone BRITISH PETROLEUM CO Ltd 7 Jan 1972 [29 Jan 1971] 3464/71 Heading C2C [Also in Division C5] Hydrocarbons are dehydrogenated in the presence of a supported Group VIII metal catalyst at up to 300‹ C. using an organic compound containing a nitro group or a quinone group as hydrogen acceptor. Suitable organic compounds are nitrobenzene and o- or p-benzoquinone which are reduced in the course of the reaction to aniline and hydroquinone respectively. Preferred hydrocarbon reactants are dibenzyl, ethylbenzene and butene-1.
