Abstract

1378017 Housing for animals W FEILHAUER 3 May 1972 [4 May 1971] 20619/72 Heading AIM Housing for farm animals comprises one or more cell units 1 contained within a permanent structure 2, e.g. a barn, to enable the animal conditions to be optimised. The cells have insulating walls 7a, b and floors 4 supported by anchored posts 3 forming an underfloor space for the accomodation of sanitary, air conditioning, and temperature control installations. Each cell has a door 8 and interconnectable end portions, and is divided in two by a wall 9 carrying an inspection path 10. Animal effluent is removed via gutters 5a, 5b covered by slatted floors, and fresh air is introduced via a duct 18, these being common to cells connected in series. The floor 4 is heated by a hot air blower or cooled by air from a branch of the ventilation duct. Feeding troughs are provided along the end walls or alternatively automatic feeders are arranged on the central wall 9. In a modification the cells are divided by a middle path, and separate areas of the floor are maintained at different temperatures by the use of floor insulation and infra-red heaters.
