Abstract
1377729 Arrangements of batteries on vehicles MESSERSCHMITT - BOLKOW - BLOHM GmbH 16 Aug 1973 [24 Aug 1972] 38805/72 Heading B7H A replaceable battery pallet for an electrically propelled vehicle is constructed as a trough like container forming part of the vehicle floor and detachable therefrom, the pallet accommodating the plates and the electrolyte of the battery cells. In a preferred embodiment, the pallet 4 is attachable to the bottom 3 of the vehicle and has bolts 31, Fig. 2, adapted for automatic locking by pins 33 carried by an upper part 3 of the floor unit. The pallet 4 comprises plastic shells 5, 6, Fig. 6, filled with polyurethane foam, the upper shell 6 being subdivided into cell compartments containing positive and negative plates 7, 8 and the electrolyte. The electrical connection of individual cells is effected by conductor plates 17 embedded beneath shell 6 and clamped by screws 15, to bolts 12 of the plates 7, 8. The conductor plates 17 are connected via cables 18 with central sockets 19, 20, Fig. 3, for engagement by plug pins 21, 22. A locating pin 23 connected to upper floor unit 3 enters a bush 24 in the pallet 4 for accurate alignment thereof. Plastic covers (10), Fig. 5 (not shown), with degassing plugs 11, cover the battery compartments and are sealed to the upper shell 6. All the bolts 31 may be released simultaneously by a single lever and the pallet 4, having rollers 27, 28, is lowered on a platform 26 to be level with a platform 29, Fig. 1, where it is rolled off for replacement by a pallet with charged units for subsequent elevation and securing to the floor part 3.
