Abstract

1377625 Pyroelectric devices; image pick-up tubes DEFENCE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 1 Sept 1972 [3 Aug 1971] 36348/71 Headings H1K and H1D A pyroelectric device for use in heat-sensitive vidicons, pyrometers, or thermometers has a polarized body comprising oxidic ferroelectric particles of size less than 200 Ám. dispersed in a non-ferroelectric insulating matrix. The body is polarized during manufacture by the application of a unidirectional field. Suitable ferroelectrics are lead zircotitanate, lead barium niobate, and an aggregate of lead magnesium niobate and lead zircotitanate. Binders may be waxes, glues, glasses, plastics and resins. Epoxy and acrylic resins are specified. Methods of making the body of the device are summarized in Claims 7 to 12. Silver paint electrodes are used.
