1377589 Separation of 1,5- and 1,8-dinitroanthraquinones SUMITOMO CHEMICAL CO Ltd 6 Oct 1972 [29 Oct 1971] 31336/74 Divided out of 1377588 Heading C2C 1,5- and 1,8-Dinitroanthraquinones are separated from their mixtures by dissolving the mixture in a solvent comprising at least one of nitrobenzene, o-, m- and p-nitrotoluene by heating to 170-230‹ C., cooling the solution to 100-160‹ C. to precipitate the 1,5-isomer and separating said isomer by hot filtration, cooling the filtrate to 10-70‹ C. to precipitate the 1,8- isomer which is also isolated by filtration, the volume ratio of solvent to anthraquinone mixture being 2-10 to 1.
