Abstract
1377463 Diagnostic test strips BOEHRINGER MANNHEIM GmbH 27 March 1973 14666/73 Heading G1B A diagnostic test strip for use in the detection of a pathologically increased protein content in the meconium consists of a test paper strip which contains a "protein error" indicator and which is sealed to a synthetic resin strip, the test paper strip having a length of 20-40 mm, preferably about 30 mm, and a width of 4-10 mm, preferably 5-6 mm, and the resin strip having a length of 20-80 mm, preferably 30-50 mm, and a width equal to the width of the paper strip. Additional to the "protein error" indicator, which may be a substance indicating increased protein content by formation of a blue coloration, the test paper strip may contain a buffer and, optionally, a wetting agent, for example a nitrogen-containing anionic wetting agent. The test paper strip may be secured to the resin strip by transfer, hot seal or wax-based melt adhesive. The free surface of the test paper strip may be covered with a protective film. Exemplified test strips consist of melt wax-coated polyester film sealed to test paper which has been impregnated with magnesium sulphate, citric acid, trisodium, citrate, tetrabromophenolphthalein ethyl ester and sodium lauroyl sarcosinate (Example 1) and polyethylene-coated polyester film sealed to test paper which has been impregnated with citric acid, trisodium citrate and either tetrabromophenol blue and, optionally, sodium lauroyl sarcosinate or tetrabromophenolphthalein ethyl ester and, optionally, sodium dodecylbenzene sulphonate or sodium lauroyl sarcosinate (Example 2).
