Abstract

1376947 Bar-peeling POLYMETALLURGICAL CORP 29 Dec 1971 [11 Jan 1971] 60411/71 Headings B3C and B3T A rotary cutter 42, Figs. 1, 2, 3, for machining a metal rod 10, comprises an annular cutter head 44 with a central aperture 68, and a plurality of cutting teeth 46, each of which has cutting edges 86, 88, 90. The cutter is used in an apparatus in which copper cladding strips 12 and 14, Fig. 1, are electrically heated at 16, 18, are formed with semi-circular cross-sections by rolls 28, 30, and are bonded on to rod 10 by rolls 58, the rod having been previously passed through four scoring rolls 32, centering bush 36, cutter 42 and a pressurized oxide-reducing retort 52 including guide boxes 54, 56. Cutter 42 is rotated by a belt drive 41, 43, and a second cutter which rotates in the opposite direction may be provided as so to counteract the torque.
