Abstract

1376828 Laminates B G JOHNSON 12 Feb 1972 6670/72 Headings B5A and B5N [Also in Division E1] Building panels manufactured by moulding successive layers comprises a plastics facing layer 32 of glass fibre reinforced plastics, a grid work of semi-tubular foam plastics filled reinforcing members 34 secured to the rear face, foam plastics insulation 38 filling the spaces defined by the gridwork, and a glass fibre reinforced plastics layer 40 over the crests ' of the reinforcing members and the insulation 38. The reinforcing members 34 are continuous in one direction of the panel. Channel section framing members having a peripheral groove 28 and a pre-applied plastics coating are positioned in the mould before the facing layer is applied thereto and integrated with said facing layer. A white layer in the form of a gel may be applied to the mould before the facing layer. An inner finishing plate of foam plastics 44 may be applied to the crests while the plastics is still tacky or glued thereto subsequently. The panels may be cured in a drying oven. The panels are interconnected with similar panels by fillets bonded in opposed grooves 28. Bevelled edges may be provided on the channel members to receive weather seals. The panels may be used for walls, roofs or partitions, further channels may be attached to the faces thereof to function as gutters or for the interconnection of further panels. Angular panels are also envisaged. All the materials used in the panels have fire-retardant properties. The reinforcing members may be of cardboard, metal or plastics.
