1376418 Sensing speed and position of a flywheel REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT and AUTOMOBILES PEUGEOT 2 May 1973 [4 May 1972] 20756/73 Heading GIN A sensing device 6, comprising two active elements 16, 17, positioned adjacent teeth 15 and slot 9 of the flywheel of an internal combustion engine for determining the speed and position of the flywheel, is mounted by passing through a hole 8 in a clutch or gear housing 7 and entering a hole 12 in engine crank-case 8, these holes having axes parallel to the rotational axis of the flywheel. The active elements may be magnetic elements with magneto resistors, Hall effect devices, inductive arrangements or printed circuits forming two flat loops. The portions of the sensing device adjacent the flywheel may have flat or curved surfaces.
