Abstract
1376393 Glass frits STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd 18 Jan 1973 [25 Jan 1972] 3379/72 Heading C1M A mixture comprises two or more powdered glasses of different compositions, the glass compositions being chosen such that, if the mixture is heated to a temperature just sufficient to cause the mixture to flow and form a coherent vitreous mass, at least two of the glasses interact in such a way that the viscosity of the mixture increases, so that the vitreous mass will no longer flow at this temperature. The mixture may be used in sealing to ceramic, metal or glass components, particularly when the sealed assembly is to be subsequently reheated to the sealing temperature. The glasses may have the same constituent elements, but in different proportions, e.g. 100 parts (by weight) of a glass consisting of 90 wt. per cent PbO and 10 wt per cent B 2 O 3 mixed with 20 parts of a glass consisting of 60 wt. per cent PbO and 40 wt. per cent B 2 O 3 (such a mixture being heated to at least 330‹ C.). Alternatively, the glasses may have different anions and interact to form a complex molecular unit, e.g. 100 parts of glass consisting of 80 wt. per cent PbO and 20 wt. per cent B 2 O 3 mixed with 3-5 parts of glass consisting of 50 mol. per cent CaO and 50 mol. per cent P 2 O 5 .
