Abstract
1375602 Supporting cables in vertical shafts INDUSTRIE PIRELLI SpA 29 Feb 1972 [9 March 1971] 9303/72 Heading H2C Cables 3, 3<SP>1</SP>, 3<SP>11</SP> are installed in a vertical shaft 2, e.g. in the earth by being progressively lowered into the shaft while clamps 12, 19, 20, 21 are attached to the cables to hold them in spaced relation as the cables enter the upper end of the shaft. When the cables are in the desired position in the shaft it is filled with a heat-conductive material, e.g. concrete which supports the cables and conducts heat from them. As shown cooling ducts 4, 5, 6 containing, e.g. circulating water, are inserted with the cables, the ducts being clamped to the cable spacers by further clamp s each comprising portions 28, 29 hinged at 30 and closable by a screw and nut 37, 38. A P.V.C. liner tube 45 is inserted in the shaft before the cables. The cables may be oil filled and have corrugated aluminium sheaths. Spacer member 12 has a hole 12<SP>1</SP> through which a rope is passed to be clamped on each side of the hole whereby the cables and ducts can be lowered by the rope.
