Abstract
1375544 Fusiformis nodosus vaccine WELLCOME FOUNDATION Ltd 19 Nov 1971 [20 Aug 1970 19 Aug 1971] 40260/70 and 39083/71 Heading A5B [Also in Division C6] A Fusiformis nodosus vaccine is prepared by cultivating F. nodosus anaerobically in a liquid nutrient medium containing in solution, crude trypsin or a digest of pancreas, and a liver digest, extract or infusion, killing the organisms and incorporating them in a container as a sterile vaccine preparation. The organisms may be separated from the culture prior to killing, which killing may be performed with formalin. The killed organisms may be incorporated in the aqueous phase of a water in oil emulsion, which emulsion may contain non-ionic hydrophilic and lipophilic emulsifiers. The vaccine may alternatively contain an aluminium adjuvant. It preferably contains 2.5 x 10<SP>7</SP>-2.5 x 10<SP>9</SP> killed organisms/ml of preparation and may contain one or more immunogenic antigens derived from other organisms e.g. clostridial organisms or F. necrophorus.
