Abstract

1375218 Thermocouple sampling device GENERAL MOTORS CORP 18 May 1972 [28 May 1971] 23351/72 Heading G1N [Also in Division C7] The cooling curve of a predetermined volume of metal is obtained by plotting on a recorder 24 the output of a thermocouple sensing junction 19, the junction wires being insulated in a ceramic coating 28 and sheathed in a tube 30 which is centrally placed in a sampling device 14. The sampling device 14 comprises a receiving basin 26 having side holes 16 which ensure that the basin 26 can hold only said predetermined volume of molten metal after it is withdrawn from the molten cast-iron 10 in holding vessel 12.
