1375037 Slurries of benzo- and naphthotriazoles CIBA-GEIGY AG 2 Oet 1972 [2 Oct 1971] 45935/71 Heading C2C A process for preparation of a slurry containing 10-40% by weight, based on the total weight of the slurry, of one or more compounds of the general formula wherein A is an aromatic carbocyclic radical which contains at most two rings and may be substituted by halogen, alkoxy, sulphonic acid or carboxy groups; B is a benzene or naphthalene radical in which two vicinal C atoms are bound to N-atoms of the triazole ring and which may be substituted by halogen, alkyl, sulphonic acid alkali metal salt groups or carboxyl groups and R is a sulphonic acid alkali metal salt group, a cyanide group or H, comprises mixing the wet filter-cake obtained during the preparation of the compound with such quantity of dispersing agent that the resultant slurry is thixotropic and has reduced tendency so settle out on static storage and has a Brookfield viscosity at equilibrium of 2000-10,000 centipoise at 6 revs./ min., 1000-3500 at 12 revs./min., and up to 2000 at 60 revs./min. The dispersing agent is preferably the sodium salt of the condensation product at naphthalene sulphonic acid and formaldehyde and may be added in 0À1-5% by weight based on the weight of the wet filtercake. A gelling agent such as beneficiated magnesium silicate and an electrolyte such as sodium chloride, sulphate or carbonate or the corresponding K salts may also be added. Preferred optical brighteners for the preparation of slurries are 4 - (2<SP>1</SP> - p - chlorophenyl - vinyl) - 1 - (naphthotriazole-2<SP>11</SP>)-3-cyanobenzene and 4-(2<SP>1</SP>- phenyl - vinyl) - 1 - (naphthotriazole sulphonic acid Na salt)-benzene 3-sulphonic acid Na salt
