Abstract
1374757 Methyl phosphonyl dichloride FRANCE ARMED FORCES MINISTER OF 19 Aug 1970 [10 Sept 1969] 40014/70 Heading C2P Methyl phosphonyl dichloride (CH 3 POCl 2 ) is made by reacting sulphonyl chloride and methyl thiophosphonyl dichloride in the molar ratio of 3:2. A batch or continuous process may be used. In the continuous process, the reactants are mixed and passed through a reaction zone at 50-60‹ C., sulphur dioxide being removed. Thionyl chloride and sulphur monochloride are then separated by fractionation, and finally the methyl phosphonyl dichloride is distilled off under reduced pressure and purified by rectification. It may be used in the manufacture of insecticides, lubricating oil additives, organophosphorated polymers, plasticizers, flame-proofing compounds, selective extraction solvents and pharmaceutical products.
