Abstract
1374745 Container ends W R GRACE & CO 20 June 1973 [21 June 1972] 29388/73 Addition to 1339356 Heading B8D [Also in Divisions C3 and F1] Sealing members or container closures, e.g. aerosol mounting cups, metal covers for pails or drums, can ends or metal bottoms of fibre drums are prepared by (a) applying to the closure, an annular layer of a composition comprising (i) a liquid isocyanate group containing polyurethane prepolymer and (ii) a polyamine carbamate dispersed in the prepolymer (see Division C3) and (b) heating the closures to or above the decomposition temperature of the carbamate to cause the composition to foam and gel. Conventional high speed gasket layer equipment may be used to carry out the process, the resulting article being sufficiently cured after a few minutes heating to be ready for transport.
