Abstract

1374348 Dihaloalkylsulphonic acid esters KUMIAI KAGAKU KOGYO KK 11 Dec 1972 [13 Dec 1971] 57097/72 Heading C2C The invention comprises compounds of the formula wherein X and X<SP>1</SP> are halogen atoms, R is H or CH 3 and R<SP>1</SP> is alkyl, haloalkyl, phenyl or phenyl substituted with at least one of halogen atoms, alkyl, alkoxy and NO 2 groups. They may be obtained by (1) halogenating an alkene sulphonate of the formula in an inert solvent with a halogen at a temperature of 10‹ to 100‹ C.; or (2) reacting a sulphonic acid halide of the formula wherein X<SP>11</SP> is a halogen atom with an alcohol or phenol of the formula in the presence of a hydrogen halide acceptor. Examples are given for the preparation of the compounds. They are useful in soil and seed sterilizing compositions and slime controlling compositions, or as a miticide, insecticide or herbicide in association with carriers, diluents, wetting agents or emulsifying agents.
