Abstract
1373777 Electrets KUREHA KAGAKU KOGYO KK 14 Dec 1971 [14 Dec 1970] 58130/71 Heading H1M A method of making an electret comprises exposing an article of fluorine-containing resin to radiation capable of striking electrons into the material. The radiation may be #-rays, or #-rays or X-rays providing electrons by the Compton effect. The energy of the electrons should be at least 50 KeV preferably at least 300 KeV. An electron microscope or electron accelerator may be the electron source. The article may be a container, artificial blood vessel or other organ required to have a negatively charged surface in contact with blood because of the anticoagulant properties of such a surface. The irradiated surface is negatively charged but it is stated that the positive charge on an opposite surface soon decays to leave both surfaces negatively charged. The inside surface of a vessel of complex shape can accordingly be given a negative charge. Alternatively an irradiated steel can be formed into the required shape. Preferably a pile of sheets is irradiated in one operation. The material may be P.T.F.E., or a copolymer of tetrafluoroethylene with vinylidene fluoride, hexafluoropropylene or trifluoromonochloroethylene.
