1373619 Knitted fabrics; knitting machines LOW & BONAR TEXTILES Ltd 18 Dec 1972 [18 Dec 1971] 58932/71 Headings D1C and D1K [Also in Division B5] A carpet underlay comprises a layer of rubber or plastics foam, particularly a corrugated foam, united to a warp knitted synthetic resin fibre net which is rendered printable by the incorporation therein of strips or tapes of paper or by the adhesion of a paper sheet thereto. The shogging warps of the net may extend diagonally to provide, diagonal stability and the paper strips may be incorporated between the pillar or warp threads and secured by the shogging warps. The reinforced net may be formed from nylon filaments by knitting on a Raschelle machine with sinker bar removed, employing four guide bars 1, 2, 3, 4 with every needle in bar 1 threaded with continuous filament nylon. 66. Bars 2 and 4 have alternate guide needles threaded with nylon and bar 3 is threaded between each pair of needles with a 3mm wide tape of crepe Kraft paper. Bar 3 is modified by insertion of a wire 3a through the normal guide eyes and attachment of a metal strip 3b along the back of the guide needles, the tapes being threaded through between the wire and metal strip. The net is bonded to the foam by heat and pressure or by latex adhesive applied by lick roller.
