1373560 Testing steel stator packs M M MIROSHNIKOV E N MINEEV K S KARAPETIAN R N IVANOVA V V ROMANOV S N KURNAKOV G M KHUTORETSKY I I ELIN V M BYKOV and D D VALCHIKHIN 22 Aug 1972 39062/72 Heading H4F A steel stator pack is tested by first induction heating the stator and then helically scanning the inner surface of the stator with an infra-red sensor, the heating winding having been deenergized. The sensor is simultaneously displaced along and rotated about the stator axis. The resulting signal from the sensor is recorded on paper by a halftone electrochemical process to produce a thermal picture of the stator bore from which the co-ordinates and shape of hot spots may be determined. By repeatedly scanning the stator bore as it cools a plurality of thermal pictures are produced from which the depth and intensity of hot spots may be determined.
