Abstract

1372696 Pneumatic conveyers; discharging articles ROEVAC-BELL Ltd 12 Nov 1971 [14 Nov 1970] 54298/70 Headings B8A and B8S A gating mechanism for controlling the supply of oriented screws 18 one at a time from a supply line 16 into a pneumatic conveyer line 24, comprises a spool valve movable between two positions in response to pneumatic pressure, and an air feed line 28, the spool valve being arranged such that in one position the air feed line 28 is connected to the conveyer line 24 and in the other position the supply line 16 is connected to the conveyer line 24 whilst the air feed line is closed. The leading screw 18 abuts against a bar parallel to the spool of the valve and movable therewith, the bar having a contoured gap therein whereby as the spool and thus the bar is moved to couple the supply line 16 to the conveyer line 24, one screw passes through the gap and through the spool valve into the line 24, whereafter it is pneumatically conveyed once the spool is returned and the air line 28 becomes coupled to the line 24. This gating mechanism is used in conjunction with an air operated screw driver, Fig. 3 (not shown) the screws being conveyed to the nose of the screwdriver through the line 24, and a pneumatic ram controlling the spool valve being operated in response to depression of the screwdriver, which is formed of telescoping parts to turn a delivered screw. The said depressing action operates a switch to energize an air motor driving the screwdriver, and this air flow causes a pressure differential in the pneumatic control circuit of the spool valve ram, whereby the ram moves the valve to shut off the conveying air supply and deliver a screw into the conveyer line 24, the spool valve being returned and the screw being conveyed once the air motor is switched off and the screwdriver is ready to receive another screw.
