Abstract

1372564 Clocks Y WAKABAYASHI 11 Oct 1971 [16 Nov 1970 28 April 1971] 47146/71 Heading G3T A digital clock comprises an indicating section A with a display formed by segmented electric bulbs 1, and a control section B containing switches 2 and switch-actuating drums 3 controlling corresponding display numerals. As shown the switches are micro-switches 2a-g for corresponding segments (1a-g), Fig.2 (not shown) of a numeral. They may alternatively be formed by metal strips (21a-g), Fig.4 (not shown) which are allowed to touch a fixed contact (21) under the control of a grooved drum (31) or which touch conducting portions of the drum surface. The first drum is driven by a synchronous motor and each steps on the next as appropriate. The switches may control the bulb segments directly or via relays (8a-g), Fig.11 (not shown) in the case of a large, mains powered display using e.g. fluorescent tubes. Each drum may actuate an additional switch (23), Fig.6 (not shown) to ensure that all segments of a numeral are switched on and off simultaneously. The display section A is rotatably and removably mounted on the control section B and may be used at a location remote from the latter. One control unit may thus be used with several display units. The unit B may incorporate a radio receiver.
