Abstract

1372439 Polypropylene laminates TOYO BOSEKI KK 7 Sept 1972 41614/72 Heading B5N [Also in Division C3] Non-blocking polypropylene film laminates are prepared by laminating to at least one face of a polypropylene film a film of a composition of polypropylene and 0À01 to 1% by weight of the polypropylene of finely dispersed thermoplastic resin of particle size 0À1 to 10 microns having a melting point no higher than 100‹ C. above that of the polypropylene and being incompatible with the polypropylene. The films may be treated on at least one surface by corona discharge and then laminated, e.g. by simultaneous extrusion and then pressing on a cooling drum, by extruding the composition on to preformed polypropylene film or by uniting preformed films, prior to stretching in at least one direction. The thermoplastic resin may be polycaprolactam, polyhexamethylene adipamide or sebacamide, polyethylene terephthalate or terephthalate/isophthalate, polytetramethylene or poly-1,4-hexamethylenedimethylene terephthalate, polyethylene oxy benzoate, poly - m - xylylene adipamide or m - xylylene ammonium adipate/-#-caprolactam copolymer, and the compositions may also contain anionic, cationic, non-ionic or amphoteric antistatic agents. Examples describe the preparation of biaxially stretched laminates formed by (5 and 6) extruding polypropylene on to films of polypropylene / polycaprolactam composition and optionally (7) laminating a further composition film to the polypropylene film, the outer surface of the composition film being corona treated.
