Abstract

1372402 Bearings ROTAX Ltd 22 Dec 1971 [7 Jan 1971] 743/71 Heading F2A A ball spline assembly comprises inner and outer members (of which only part is illustrated) having oppositely disposed pairs of grooves formed therein, a row of balls located in each said pair of grooves, and springs acting in opposite axial directions on the balls, said springs being compressed during relative axial movement of the members whereby the balls are centred axially. The balls are separated by spacers. In an alternative embodiment, the balls are located in a cage having axially disposed slots to accommodate the springs; in this case, each spring abuts at one end against respective pins carried by the inner and outer members.
