Abstract

1371672 Automatic control of tension AMPEX CORP 27 Jan 1972 58052/73 Divided out of 1371671 Heading G3R The subject matter is the same as that of the Parent Specification 1371671 but the claims relate to the fast wind means of the magnetic tape transport system in which the tape passes through only one of a pair of pneumatic pressure differential columns 17 Fig.8 on the supply side of the transducing heads 29, 31 and whereby the tape loop length sensing means 26 controls the motor driving the supply reel 41 to maintain a long loop towards position 163 and the motor driving the tape up reel 43 to maintain a short loop. The arrangement is such that at least one of the motors and its associated reel 41 or 43 is driven at its maximum possible speed to obtain the highest possible rewind speed.
