Abstract

1371579 Solenoid energizing circuits ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 30 June 1972 [1 July 1971] 30657/72 Heading H3T [Also in Division F1] A circuit for rapidly operating and holding a solenoid valve comprises a feed-back arrangement responsive to the voltage across the solenoid for maintaining the voltage constant during build-up of current and a further feedback arrangement responsive to the attainment of a given current to reduce the current to the minimum holding value. In Fig. 2, rendering transistor 12 conducting causes transistors 21 and 22 to conduct and operates solenoid valve 70. When the voltage across the solenoid reaches the maximum allowable value a Zener diode 32 conducts to render conducting a transistor 33 connected to the input of transistors 21 and 22 so as to maintain the voltage across the solenoid constant. The current rises until the voltage across resistor 41 applied to a comparator 51- 56 exceeds the reference voltage across 53 and 55 whereupon the control exercised by transistor 56 on transistor 33 reduces the current to a minimum holding level, transistor 61 being cross-coupled with transistor 56 to assist holding at this level. Diodes 31 and 55 provide temperature compensation and, during the switchoff, the back E.M.F. of the coil is dissipated in transistor 22 and resistor 41. Diodes 26 and 44 serving to protect the rest of the circuit.
