1370975 Abrading CIRTEMETRIC Ltd 17 Nov 1972 44946/72 Addition to 1078562 Heading B3D A multi-purpose machine tool comprises a rotatable table 14 having mounted thereon a plurality of rotary tools, a slide 2 supporting a drive motor 1 and a first clutch plate 12 in driving connection with the motor drive shaft, and a plurality of second clutch plates 19, each fixed on a respective spindle 18 associated with one of the tool spindles 15 and connected thereto by gearing, whereby a selected tool can be rotated by turning the table until the second clutch plate on the associated spindle is aligned with the first clutch plate and displacing the slide to bring the first clutch plate into frictional driving engagement with the second clutch plate. The Specification relates to an improvement in or modification of the multi-purpose machine tool described in Specification 1,078,562 and has an annular table 14 which is rotatable around a fixed circular table 3 and carries a plurality of tools, such as grinding wheels, a chuck, buffing wheels and a belt sander, each of which has a spindle 15 connected by gearing 16, 17 to a spindle 18 having a clutch plate 19. The table 3 has guideways 4, 5 for the slide 2 carrying the drive motor 1, the driving shaft 9 of which is connected by gearing 10, 11 to a driving spindle 7 for the first clutch plate 13. The slide 2 is connected by a rod 22 to an arm 21 on a cylindrical part 20 which is rotatably mounted on a fixed part of the tool below the table 14. A handle 26 on the part 20 permits manual rotation thereof so that the arm 21 and rod 22 move the slide to disengage the clutch plates 12, 19. At the same time, a pin 25 on the part 20 acts to withdraw a spring-pressed plunger 23 from a socket 25 in the table 14 to permit the table to be indexed to present the clutch plate of one of the other tools to the first clutch plate 12, release of the handle 26 re-engaging the plunger 23 with the selected socket 25 and frictionally engaging the clutch plates. In another embodiment, a roller (27, Fig. 3, not shown) is carried by an arm (28) from a bracket (29) mounted on the motor slide for selective engagement with locating recesses (30) on the internal periphery of the table 14.
