Abstract
1370527 Coil winding apparatus GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 28 March 1972 [1 April 1971] 14455/72 Heading B3A Apparatus for developing turns of winding material for assembly with a magnetic core of a dynamo-electric machine stator comprises a machine frame 11, a flyer for developing winding turns about a first axis 15 of rotation, a first mechanism 31 about which a portion 13 of the flyer is movable, and means 59 for locking the first mechanism against angular movement relative to the frame, wherein a shutter opening is defined which is continuously movable in synchronism with the flyer, and through which segments of winding material may be fed from a first region proximate to the first axis to a second region, spaced at a different radial distance from the axis than the first region, along an angularly moving passageway extending between the frame and the first mechanism. The frame 11 and mechanism 31 carry respective meshing surfaces 63, 65. A locking support 59, which includes a meshed structure 61, engages alternately with surfaces 63, 65 as drive shaft 17, flyer arm 13, and support structure 53 rotate and mechanism 31 and frame 11 remain stationary. Structure 53 is tilted with respect to axis 15 which results in support 59 and associated meshing surfaces 61 executing a wobbling, non-rotary motion, Fig. 3 (not shown), about the tubular drive shaft 17. Structure 59 and meshing surfaces 61, 65 act as a shutter which enables wire passageway 23 to rotate around axis 15 and deliver material to the flyer arm while the mechanism 31 remains locked stationary by reason of its engagement, via gears 61, 65, with stationary meshing surface 63 secured to the machine frame 11. Bearing races 55, 57 allow relative movement between members 53, 59, and likewise races 41, 43 allow movement between shaft 17 and mechanism 31. Rod 49 is axially movable with respect to the coil form 29 to allow all coil turns developed in a single cycle to be received by blades of a transfer mechanism (71), Fig. 1 (not shown), mounted on a support (73). Relative axial movement can occur between members 31, 33 for which a pin 35 and hole 37 are provided for alignment. Axial rod 49 and tubes 50, 51 are movable together relative to the flyer arm 13 to allow the winding of coils of different pitches or diameters on the coil form. Instead of meshing gear teeth on surfaces 61, a flexible spline arrangement may be used.
