Abstract

1369912 Grinding lenses RODWAY OPTICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 18 Jan 1973 [22 Jan 1972] 3141/72 Heading B3D A control means for controlling the axial movement of a lens-carrying assembly 12 during rocking of the assembly as it follows a pattern of a particular lens to be ground, comprises a control surface 5 angularly and linearly adjustable according to the size and/or thickness of the lens such that an element 14 movable with the assembly and biased to bear on the surface controls the axial movement of the assembly. The surface 5 may be straight or curved and is formed on a plate 2 adjustable about a pivot 3 on a carrier 4, the adjustment being either infinitely variable or in steps determined by a spring-loaded element 6 engaging recesses or apertures in the plate 5. Figures on the plate indicate the dropline setting. The carrier 4 is adjustable by a screw 9 on a structure 1 to the thickness of the lens, the adjustment being shown by graduations 11. The assembly is within a casing 12 rockable about a shaft 13 and is axially biased by a spring, weights or an armature 15 and a permanent or electromagnet in a bearing 16 to engage the stud element 14 with the control surface 5 so that as the assembly is rocked by the pattern corresponding to the desired lens shape, the assembly is moved axially to follow the axial shape of the lens according to the dropline setting.
