1369461 Photo-electric flame detectors PREUSSAG A G FEUERSCHUTZ 12 Oct 1971 [12 Oct 1970 21 Oct 1970 and 20 Feb 1971] 47437/71 Heading G1A In a method and apparatus for detecting flames and giving an alarm in which a photo-cell 310 provides an output corresponding to the flickering of the flames and a predetermined low frequency flicker range is isolated, e.g. by a demodulator 311, to provide a measurement signal, the spectral power density of this signal is measured in at least two different ranges in the flicker frequency range and the alarm is actuated when the power density exceeds a threshold value in each range. As shown, three filters 317-319 pass different portions of the frequency range. If the output voltages of the three filters each exceed a pre-set level, an alarm is actuated. The outputs of the filters may be supplied to respective counters which are incremented as long as the filter output exceeds a minimum level. If each counter is filled, an alarm is actuated.
