1369416 Working stone B WURMBACH 15 Jan 1973 2069/73 Heading B5E Apparatus for cutting in slab-shaped structural element 32, Fig. 1, comprises a first cutter means 18 mounted on a base frame 12, guide rails 26 adjacent the ends of the first cutter means, a beam 34 carrying second cutter means 36 arranged to slide on the rails in a direction towards and away from the first cutter means, a yoke 50 connecting the ends of the guide rails, and at least one manually-operable power device 64 disposed between the beam and the yoke, at least one of the cutter means being pivotable about an axis of rotation which is normal to a common plane containing the cutter means and intersects a centre line lying in the plane. The base frame has a main beam 10 and a cutter beam 12, the main beam having wheels 14 at one end and a stand 16 at the other end. The first cutter means 18 is of triangular cross-section and secured to the cutter beam 12 by clamping strips 20 and bolts 22, the arrangement being such that when one edge of the cutter is worn, the clamps can be released so that the cutter can be turned to present a new edge. The guide rails 26 are cylindrical and secured to the base frame adjacent the ends of the cutter 18, the upper ends of the rails being connected to the yoke 50. The beam 32 is provided with oval holes 44 containing bushes 46 of synthetic plastics material slidable on the rails 26, the quality of the holes permitting the beam to pivot about the rails referred to above. The second cutter means 36 is similar to the first cutter means and mounted in a similar manner on the beam 34. Support members 28 for the workpiece 32 are mounted on resilient elements 30 on each side of the first cutter 18. Springs 52 act between the yoke 50 and beam 34 to urge the latch upwardly. A stud 54 engages through a low friction bearing 56 the upper end 58 of a threaded spindle 60 which is rotatable by handles 62 and engages the piston 66 of the power device 64 which is secured through a plate 74 on the beam 34; the bearing 56 permits tilting between the stud 54 and spindle 60. By rotation of the handles 62, the device 64 and beam 34 are adjusted to the thickness of the workpiece. Thereafter, actuation of a handle 80 operates a pump 76 to supply fluid to the device 64 so that the beam 34 and cutter means 36 effect a cutting stroke. The handle 86 can be stored in a clip 90 or used as a towing handle 98. A sighting device consisting of a rod (92, Fig. 2, not shown) and angle piece (94) extends from one side of the beam 34. The cutter beam 12 may also, or alternatively, be mounted to pivot about an axis normal to the plane containing the cutting means.
