Abstract
1369025 Hydroxyphenones SERDEX-SOC D'ETUDES DE RECHERCHES DE DIFFUSION ET D'EXPLOITATION 29 Dec 1971 [4 Jan 1971] 60379/71 Heading C2C [Also in Division C3] Hydroxyphenones of formula in which R is hexyl or cyclohexyl are prepared by the Friess rearrangement in which phenolic esters are converted to the corresponding phenones in the presence of a catalyst, e.g. BF 3 . Phenol (1 mole) is reacted with cyclohexyl carboxylic acid (1 mole) at 80-90‹ C. for 2 hours in the presence of BF 3 to give a product which recrystallizes from an ammonia solution at pH and has a M.Pt. of 119‹ C.
