Abstract
1368899 Crash restraint bags TECHNAR Inc 24 Aug 1972 [27 Aug 1971] 39451/72 Heading B7B In a vehicle equipped with a gas bag restraint assembly a crash sensor assembly 1 comprises an electrical generating means 2, e.g. a vehicle battery, a switch 6 closed in response to a predetermined vehicle deceleration, a switch 4 closed in response to a crushing impact of the vehicle, an actuating means 14 in electrical communication with both switches and operative to actuate a gas generating means to inflate the gas bag upon closure of both switches, a continuity comparator 8 electrically to sense and to generate an output signal when one of the switches 4, 6 is closed for longer than a predetermined time interval before the other switch closes, a circuit breaker 12 arranged to deactivate the crash sensor assembly upon receipt of the output signal from the comparator. An indicator 10 provides audible and/or visible warning of deactivation of the crash sensor to the vehicle's occupants. In a preferred embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown), the comparator is a time delay switch providing a signal if both switches do not close within a predetermined time interval and the circuit breaker is a fuse link. In an alternative embodiment the switches 4, 6 are both deceleration responsive but at different values thereof.
