Abstract
1368630 Machine supports G CHADWICK 20 Sept 1972 [21 Sept 1971] 43860/71 Heading F2X An anti-vibration mounting for a machine, e.g. a compressor, is made by casting a number of plinths, e.g. plinth 20, in situ from reinforced concrete on a foundation 28. Bores 24 for receiving holding down bolts 26 for the machine are then drilled through the plinths and into the foundation 28 by means of a diamond tipped bit 25. A jig 1 in the form of a rectangular frame and provided with height adjusting means and location holes 2 extending through reinforcement pads 3 is levelled over the plinths with the holes 2 in alignment with the bores 24. Epoxy resin composition 29 is poured into the bores 24 for bonding bolts 26 in position over their lower portions and rubber sleeves 30 are placed over their upper portions and sealed with foam rubber 31. The jig 1 is then removed from the plinth, foot plates 11 attached by means of bolts screwed into threaded apertures 10 adjacent each pad 3, and the jig 1 again levelled over the plinths with the foot plates 11 suspended in prepared recesses 27 at the bolt locations. Epoxy resin composition 32 is poured into the recesses 27 so that the foot plates 11 are immersed in the composition, the bolts are removed from the apertures 10, and the jig 1 is removed leaving the foot plates 11 in situ. The installation has the advantage that the foot plates 11 are set in position when the machine 33 arrives for mounting and the bolts 26 are subject to a minimum of stress, shear stress caused, e.g. by lateral components of vibration being converted to a bending stress over the upper portions of the bolts. Foamed rubber 34 is inserted between the plinth 20, the resin composition 32 and the machine 33.
