Abstract

136,786. Caterpillar Tractors, Ltd., (Holt Manufacturing Co.). Aug. 15, 1919. Channels and reservoirs in chains.-Relates to endless tracks for vehicles of the kind in which the links 10 of the track are provided with spaced bearings 12, 13 at one end for a hollow pin 14 secured in a central bearing 11 on the adjacent link, and consists in forming the body of the link as a hollow reservoir 17 for lubricant and providing ducts through the pivot pin to lead the lubricant to the bearings. An axial duct 21 in the pin communicates by a transverse hole 22 and an opening 20 in the wall of the reservoir and by holes 23 with the bearings 12, 13. The bearings 11, 12, 13 having segmental lugs acting in conjunction with complementary recesses in the ends of the adjacent links to limit the movements of of the links 12, and seal the joints. The spaced links 12, 13 have lateral cylindrical extensions 15 to engage the driving sprockets Removable grouser plates 25 with overlapping ends are secured to the undersides of the links.
