Abstract
1367321 Automatic warehouses; endless chain conveyers H POHL and H R FRANZ 17 Sept 1971 [17 Sept 1970] 43447/71 Headings B8E and B8A Articles are fed from racks 1, Fig. 1, to coded locations on an endless conveyer 2 by inserting devices 3. On instructions from a computer, required articles are fed from the conveyer 2 to a shorter endless conveyer 5 by transfer mechanism 18 and subsequently from the conveyer 5, by further transfer mechanism 18, to a perpendicular conveyer 7 which delivers the articles to a container 9. The devices 3 run on rails on the storage racks and have means for feeding information to the computer. Attendants manually place articles on the conveyers 2 and feed the information through the devices 3. Conveyers 2 and 5 comprise vertical rows of platforms 17, Fig. 4, suspended between guide tracks 20, 21. At the transfer point the conveyers are adjacent each other, Fig. 6, and the articles are pushed from one conveyer to the other by pushers 18 which move synchronously with the conveyers. Similar transfer is effected between conveyers 5 and 7. Containers 9 are fed to the article receiving point via a roller conveyer 11. Articles on the conveyers are monitored by vertical banks of lights alongside the conveyer which, in co-operation with mirrors at the opposite side of the conveyer, register the presence or absence of articles and feed the information to the computer.
