Abstract

1366807 Combined pressure warning device and reducing valve; valves GIRLING Ltd 31 Jan 1973 [8 Feb 1972] 5777/72 Headings F2E F2F and F2V A pressure differential warning device has first and second pressure spaces 8, 9 separated by a pressure responsive member 4, each space having its own inlet and outlet, the first space having its outlet 8B connected to a reducing valve and a by-pass outlet 8C closed by a valve member with an annular seal normally closed by face-to-face engagement with a valve seat and which opens upon movement of the responsive member upon the pressure being less in the second space than the first space. An electrical switch 7 has a plunger 6 which is actuated by movement of the responsive member 4 due to a V-groove. Upon movement of the member 4, say to the right, a lefthand sealed sleeve 5 is held stationary by contact with the switch, but a righthand sleeve 5 is moved by a circlip on the member 4. Upon subsequent balancing of pressures in the spaces 8, 9, the member and righthand sleeve 5 are actuated by fluid pressure to move the member back to its central position. A valve head 22 of the reducing valve is moved from its seating 23 by pressure fluid from the space 8 until the force on the lefthand face equals that in the righthand annular face causing subsequent closing. Thus the flow is metered through this valve to produce a lower downstream pressure. The fluid from the space 8 actuates rear wheel brakes, and that of the space 9 actuates front wheel brakes, the pressure of the rear brakes being lower. Upon failure of the front brakes due to pressure loss, the by-pass valve 10 allows full pressure for rear brake actuation.
