Abstract

1366576 Apparatus for topping vegetables WINTER ENG Ltd 24 July 1972 [5 April 1972] 15686/72 Heading A4C A vegetable topping apparatus comprises a frame 18 supporting a riddle 19 formed from a plurality of parallel bars (20), Fig. 2 (not shown), means for imparting a horizontal, reciprocal movement to the frame 18 to move vegetables on the riddle 19 along the riddle, and fans 48, 50 arranged to draw air downwardly through apertures between the bars of the riddle thereby causing the tops of vegetables to be sucked through the apertures, the fans 48, 50 having blades provided with sharp leading edges 51 which cut off the tops of the vegetables. As shown, the apparatus is for topping vegetables and the frame 18 is reciprocated in a horizontal direction by a variablespeed motor 24 operating through a crank wheel 36 and a connecting rod 38. The sides and ends of the apparatus are enclosed by sheet metal guards 14 and the top of the apparatus is covered by a mesh guard 16. A discharge shoot is provided at the output end of the apparatus. An input shoot may be provided at the input end of the apparatus.
