Abstract
1366508 Air flow control dampers DANFOSS AS 3 Aug 1971 [3 Aug 1970 29 Jan 1971] 36399/71 Heading F4V [Also in Divisions F1 F2 and G3] An air-flow control valve, Fig. 5, for use in air-conditioning systems comprises a rigid control plate 24 rectilinearly or angularly movable to vary, e.g. the flow area through an orifice 23, the plate 24 being movable by a flexible chamber actuator comprising at least one inflatable flat bag 1, Fig. 4, mounted with the outer flat portions thereof in contact with the plate 24 and a fixed member 2. As shown the plate 24 is pivotable about an axis 7 to control the flow of air from an inlet chamber 21 to an outlet chamber 22. Movement of the actuator is dependent on the pressure difference across the bag(s). The bag(s) are subjected on the outside to the outlet chamber pressure and on the inside to a pressure in a line 31, 32, 6 connected to the inlet chamber 21 and having a discharge outlet controlled by a bimetal actuated obturating member 30. In Fig. 6, the actuator is mounted in a box 12, the pressure acting on the outside of the bags being taken from a static pressure tapping 6i and the pressure acting on the inside being taken from a total pressure tapping 6. Thus the actuator is responsive to the dynamic pressure and is said to control the plate 24 such that a constant air flow is produced even though the pressure in the inlet 21 varies. The actual air flow is determined by a manually adjustable flap 16 or automatically in dependence of a pilot pressure (Px) admitted to a further actuator (1<SP>1</SP>) which either affects the loading applied to the main actuator, Fig. 7 (not shown), or controls the flap (24<SP>11</SP>), Fig. 9 (not shown). In further embodiments, Figs. 10 and 11 (not shown), an actuator having its bags 1 urged towards a collapsed condition by a spring (8), operates through linkwork a semi-cylindrical or sector shaped valve member (24a) controlling the proportionate flow from a pair of inlet chambers (21) to a single outlet or mixing chamber (22).
