Abstract

1366394 Culture of bivalve molluscs SCOTTISH SEA FARMS Ltd 27 Dec 1972 [26 Jan 1972] 3686/72 Heading A1A A method of culturing bivalve molluscs, oyster for example, comprises placing the larvae in containers of filtered and warmed sea-water which is continuously agitated by a stream of air, is regularly changed and is supplied with cultured algae as food. After the larvae have settled as spat upon sheets of, for example, plastics, the spat is removed and transferred to a similar container which again is filled with regularly changed, heated and filtered sea water containing cultured food. After 7 to 10 days the spat are transferred to mesh bottomed spat trays where they further develop while sedentary in the trays in streams of first warm and later ambient temperature sea water.
