Abstract

136,625. Hamilton, J., (Jackson, D.). Dec. 17, 1918. Rod couplings; junction-pieces. - Pipes are joined together at various angles to form rails for stair-cases &c. by means of fittings which comprise a spherical-shaped base member 1, which may be bored centrally to fit over one of the pipes of the rail, and which is bored with threaded holes 3 inclined to suit the angle at which a pipe is to be fitted, the pipes as p being secured in position by means of tubular members 4 secured bv countersunk screws 6 fitting the holes 3, and formed with fluted flanges 5 which are threaded to receive a screwed socket on the rail. A number of spherical members 1 may be formed on each upright of the banister, and these uprights may be secured to the floor by means of semi-spherical brackets 7 bored centrally to receive the uprights, and formed, if desired, with holes as 3 for securing an inclined rail by means of fastening-devices as 4, 5, 6. The upper rails may be secured to the wall by means of a sphere connected by a screw to a wall bracket 10. The inner edges of the tubes and the members 4 are preferably cut away slightly to fit the spherical base accurately.
