Abstract

1366160 Manually operable control device ELLIOTT BROS (LONDON) Ltd 28 March 1973 [29 Dec 1971] 60617/71 Heading G4H [Also in Division G1] A manually operable control comprises at least two sensors 19a responsive to the presence of a human finger and a logic circuit which produces a pulse on one or other of two lines 25a, 25b according as a finger is moved past the sensors in one direction or the opposite. As shown, the sensors 19a are photodiodes or phototransistors co-operating with light emitting diodes 35a, 35b, the sensors and L.E.D.s being recessed. The L.E.D.s may be modulated, the outputs of the sensors being filtered to discriminate against ambient conditions. The module 31 houses logic 21, counter 13, encoders 15 and display 17. The sensors may be capacitive. In an alternative arrangement, Fig. 5 (not shown), three sensors are arranged around a circular path for the finger. The device may control the setting of a resistor or capacitor in a computer.
