Abstract

136,577. Head, C. J. June 27, 1917. Alkali tungstates.-Ores or the like containing tungsten are heated with alkalis to produce fusible tungstates upon a pervious hearth distinct from the furnace charge, so that the fused tungstate percolates through the hearth and is discharged separate from the gangue. The furnace shown comprises a heating- chamber having rails d upon which runs a truck carrying a hearth made up of a solid part g upon which the charge is first heated, and a perforated part h under which is a layer of filtering-material, which may contain tungsten, so as to enrich the fused product. The tungstate is collected in an inclined groove k. There may be flues passing through the filtering.material to utilize the waste heat of the furnace and keep the tungstate fused.
